Lots of reading while on furlough. I'm reading Michael Kauffman's American Brutus and I have questions. I think Kauffman leaped from rising star Booth to assassin. I am surprised to learn of Booth's serious injuries on the stage. Could he have been affected by massive doses of quinine? #skystorians

I worked as a seasonal Park Ranger in Boston for a couple of years after I finished my PhD. NPS staff are the most incredibly talented public servants you will ever meet. They need our support and gratitude. Trust me - they are not in it for the money or benefits.

I'm not wildly ancient of age yet, and remember well my grandmother's stories (b. 1912) of losing childhood friends to whooping cough. My father (b. 1929), stricken with polio at age 7, grew with his left leg 5 inches shorter than the other.
