oh shit WINE 10 fixed the big problems with high-DPI, it did not work anywhere near this well when we were trying this out in WINE 9, a year and a half ago
look at how it handles 144dpi (default is 96dpi):
- winecfg and explorer are dpi-aware
- mspaint gets upscaled
perfect!

oh holy shit the version of explorer.exe bundled with the current stable WINE in Debian actually has the Programs submenu in the Start Menu *and* desktop icon support! I thought this was completely missing, did it get added relatively recently? lets fucking gooo

why does WINE Internet Explorer (yes that is a real thing) fail to auto-download WINE Gecko (yes) on Debian 13. it is supposed to prompt you for that. did the Debian maintainers be like noooo you cant download an exe from winehq dot org and patch that out without packaging it
