Thanksgiving 1776 looked very different.

Washington's army was in retreat. Morale was collapsing. The revolution seemed lost.

Two months later, the tide turned—thanks in part to intelligence gathering.

That's the story we're telling: hiddeninkpress.com 🕵️

In 1780, Benedict Arnold's treason was discovered because
of intelligence from the Culper Ring.

The spy network Washington built after Nathan Hale's
execution literally saved the revolution.

How do you visualize invisible history? 🤔

The Culper Ring's greatest strength was staying hidden. No photographs, few portraits, operations designed to leave no trace.

Comics let us reconstruct their world - the tense conversations, secret meetings, moments of terror when discovery seemed certain.

Setauket, Long Island - then and now 📍

1778: Abraham Woodhull's spy headquarters, surrounded by British patrols
2025: Quiet Long Island town, most residents unaware of its Revolutionary War significance

Abraham Woodhull lived three lives simultaneously: farmer, father, spy 🌾🕵️
Imagine the psychological toll. Tending cabbage crops while memorizing British troop movements. Reading bedtime stories while planning dead drops. Attending church with the same officers you're spying on. #HiddenInkComics

'Patriots in Plain Sight' - the title for Liberty's Invisible Ink Issue #1
The Culper Ring weren't soldiers or politicians. They were your neighbors, shopkeepers, the woman next door.
The most dangerous revolutionaries often look the most ordinary. Thoughts on the title? #PatriotsInPlainSight #comic

Anna Strong's laundry code was genius in its simplicity 🧺
Black petticoat on the line = Caleb Brewster is in the area, meeting tonight
Number of white handkerchiefs = which cove he's anchored in (1-6)
Sometimes, the best hiding place is right in plain sight. #AnnaStrong #CulperRing #HiddenInkComics

Washington's actual letter about invisible ink, 1775: 'The ink now used...appears and disappears almost like magic'
Even the Commander-in-Chief was amazed by the Culper Ring's methods. This letter directly inspired scenes in Liberty's Invisible Ink. 📜 #HiddenInkComics #GeorgeWashington #InvisibleInk

Sunday question for my new Bluesky friends: What's your favorite spy story (real or fictional)?

I'll start: The Cambridge Five absolutely fascinates me. Five Soviet spies were at the heart of British intelligence for decades. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

Did you know the Culper Ring operated for 5 years without losing a single agent?

In an era when most spies were hanged within months, these Long Island farmers built a network so secure that some members' identities remained unknown until the 1900s.

The Culper Ring's invisible ink formula was so secret, it wasn't rediscovered until 2011!

They called it "sympathetic stain" and George Washington was so paranoid about it falling into British hands, he numbered the bottles.

What historical secrets fascinate you?
