I drew the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal, using a photograph taken from the ferry.

I used a limited pallet of Derwent Inktense pencils (0230, 1730, 0900, with the accidental inclusion of 1210 when I forgot I was using 0900) on cream Mi-Teintes paper.

In 2023 painted European mistletoe on apple. The lack of berries indicates that either this is a male plant, or that it is the wrong season for berries.

I like the way close-up images of drawings reveal the texture of the paper catching individual flecks of pigment. Instead of smooth colour or hard outlines, you can see the varying density of coloured speckles.

In 2022 I painted tomato early blight, caused by the fungal pathogen Alternaria solani.

This is one of my favourite plant disease paintings. The composition & colours really worked!

I drew a sunset on Sakurajima using Derwent Inktense pencils on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. In the photo, there’s a tiny couple having wedding pictures taken by the bay.

I asked ChatGPT to write step-by-step drawing instructions. You can see more here: hgpenningtonart.com/...
