Last night's plein air painting in Fairview State Park. Set up where we couldn’t actually see the sun setting, so caught the golden light hitting the cypress trees.

I did not get out to paint today, but I have been doing some canvas prep. I always start my paintings with an imprimatura. Generally orange for day paintings and dark blue/purple for nocturnes.

I find starting on white makes it much harder to judge values and colors.

2025 is off to a great start. I painted nocturnes, I painted a snowstorm in south Louisiana, and I painted with my Sunday morning painting class. I hope everyone's year is starting off with momentum that we can all carry through the year.

After I finished work today, I went outside and painted our street. Getting to paint snow is something of a miracle here in Southeastern Louisiana. It's been years since we've had snow at our house, and I've never seen this much.

It was a very cold night fort painting. About 40 degrees while we were out there. This was painted standing on the dock on the Tchefuncte, looking back towards the bank and parking lot through the trees.
