I thought the light was nice and love it when blinds make shapes on the wall.

Just finished painting this wee portrait. Oil on board.

Here I add some more detail to the background which happened to be a very busy wallpaper. The glass and hands get some more detail as well as the wood.

Here I have the background, which I always dread as I find it the most tedious part in all my work as the challenge for me is capturing the likeness or mood. Added in the table here as well as the first shadows which help connect the subject to the environment.

Now for the glass's of milk. I also added a highlight in the eye. Usually I would wait until the end as this small white pin point of light really brings a subject to life.

Adding some rough grain in the wooden chair and blocking in the hair. All the while I am adding little bits of colour to the face to bring some warmth.

Adding in the background and refining some shapes and adding a little more detail to the napkin and starting to add the hair.

The woolen horns and a bit of highlight and shadow added to the balaclava. Red is a super strong pigment so I find it to be one that's hard to blend over.

The balaclava is red and woolen so will need to add the background before the final pass of small fluffy bits.

I blocked in the napkin covering the eyes as it really ties the image together and is the main focal point. The painting of paper which is folded always consists of straight lines. With highlights butting against shadows.

Now I start to block in the colours, I work with oils and personally find adding the light colours first gives me a fighting chance when wiping mistakes. I will make them and have learned to try and appreciate the learning curve.

Here is the initial sketch sometimes I get to this stage and decide, nope, nope ,nope but I'm happy to proceed.

I paint and this is how I do it.
Gridding off my image, just like the games on the back of old cereal boxes.
