Not a great week for Canadian fans of Greenland ... and by that I mean the Gerard Butler franchise, as GREENLAND 2, which is opening in U.S. theatres this weekend via Lionsgate, will skip Canadian theatres and debut on Prime Video Canada later this year.

There was once no better way to spend an afternoon than lunch at the Mandarin followed by a matinee at the Famous Players (then Cineplex) Canada Square. RIP to the Yonge-Eglinton of my heart.

Happy new year, Netflix is still planning to kill movie theatres. (And if they aren’t, now’s the time to speak up and give consumers an actual number/plan.)

The news about moviegoing this year was worse than the movies themselves. But there were still plenty of on-screen catastrophes, too – films that make you wonder if the industry is just a giant money-laundering operation. Here are the 10 worst of the worst: www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/film...

ANACONDA (2025): Is it easier to believe Jack Black, Paul Rudd & Thandiwe Newton (!) were teens when the '97 original came out, as this film posits, or that the director of THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT once again torpedoed a half-nifty concept? www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/film...
Meta-reboot of Anaconda comes up snake eyes
Maybe if the filmmakers went the R-rated route, the scales would be tipped toward more fun than dumb

What Canucks should get heated about is that Heated Rivalry will not be competing in the next Canadian Screen Awards because the absurd delay between eligibility and awards broadcast on the TV front.

In May 2026, the CSAs will honour shows with seasons that ran between Sept 1, 2024 & Nov 15, 2025.

Imagine stepping into S2 of the best show on TV, the audience instantly hostile — wondering why they’re suddenly stuck with your annoying dick and not the characters they grew to love — and then winning ‘em over (not instantly, but incrementally) with a true tragic figure. RIP James “Ziggy” Ransone.
