I have read many articles that say Musk has had frequent phone calls with Putin. See PBS, WSJ and The Guardian.

I think the only way to view Trump’s actions is through the lens of espionage. He is behaving like a Russian asset.

This all makes complete sense. Where do you see Congressional Republicans’ total capitulation fitting into this?

14. If the "sale" of the Presidency happened as I've speculated, then Musk gets: a government incapable of regulating or taxing the rich, the promise that lucrative contracts will go to his firms & all the data he can use. Putin gets a poorer, sicker, weaker US that can't stop him.
I hope I'm wrong.

13. Of course it would be very much in Putin's interests to weaken US military power, which Trump has been busy accomplishing by appointing an unqualified Sec of Defense & by purging qualified generals & other key personnel.

These moves will also help Trump use the military to put down protests.

12. But a market crash would be in Putin's interests & possibly Musk's.

To weaken the US, Putin would want Trump to attack our economic power, which we've used for decades to sanction him & his cronies. Without that, the US is a paper tiger.

Musk might want to crash the $ to make room for crypto.

11. Why would Trump let this happen? It makes him look bad. And we know from his 1st term that Trump cares a lot about the stock market--treats it as a measure of his success.
Letting anyone trigger a market downturn, much less one this extreme, is VERY uncharacteristic for Trump.

10. Letting DOGE mess with the Treasury & spike unemployment through mass federal layoffs also hurts Trump personally: the Federal Reserve of Atlanta predicts the US economy will abruptly stop its pattern of healthy growth & lurch into reverse; some predict a recession.

The US economy has suddenly been thrown into reverse as key GDP indicator flashes stunning negative forecast
The Atlanta Fed's GDP tracker now indicates the economy is headed for a 1.5% contraction in the first quarter, after showing 2.3% growth just days earlier.

9. Letting a flu vaccine exist or cancer research continue wouldn't harm Trump in any way. Destroying those advances doesn't seem to help him, either.

So who benefits? An adversary, like Putin, would benefit. 1st by knocking down a pillar of US global leadership. 2nd by making more Americans sick.

8. Think abt why Trump would put so much effort into destroying 1 of our greatest strengths: scientific leadership, especially in public health.

Why would T let DOGE cut off cancer research funding? Why would T let RFKJr cancel development of next year's flu vaccine?

7. Trump seems to be "paying back" Putin by engaging in a series of increasingly destructive acts. That includes not just the bizarre, almost campy or WWF-like attempt to humiliate Zelenskyy last Friday in the Oval Office, but also appointments & EOs that undermine the greatest strengths of the US.

6. All this is being done without a peep of protest or criticism from Trump, even though Musk/DOGE put Trump's poll numbers--which we know he actually cares about--into negative territory.

Trump, the guy who's always on offense, is notably silent & docile with Musk.

4. Putin's purchase wasn't out in the open, but we can infer it from 2 things:

a. the warning Putin aide Nikolay Patrushev issued a week after Election Day, stating T owed his win to "certain forces" & was "obliged" to pay

b. T taking actions that mainly benefit Putin

3. To achieve his 2 goals, Trump sold the Presidency to Musk & Putin--in the sense of agreeing to use (or let them use) the Presidential role to achieve *their* objectives.

We saw Musk buy his share in broad daylight: $277 million cash on the barrelhead.

2. Trump doesn't really want to be President in the sense of running the US, but he does want two things above all else:

a. to stay out of prison--prison was a very real possibility for him, had Harris/Walz been elected

b. to get revenge on those he perceives as having wronged him 2016-24

🧵The intersection of the Musk & Putin agendas are coming into focus. Here's what I think is happening. I hope I'm wrong.

Key to understand:

1. Trump=POTUS in Name Only (PINO), while Musk runs the US day to day.

2. Musk & Putin put T in office; many of his actions now are repayment of that debt.
