"It may take time to prove you're right, but you have to stick to it."
- Fred Korematsu

Jailed for refusing to abide by FDR's Exec Order 9066, he took his case against internment all the way to the Supreme Court - and lost. Remember him on Korematsu Day, January 30th. 1/

Refinery workers and community groups don’t usually speak with a single voice. The fact that they have come together around this issue is telling. We should all be concerned.
“We represent communities living next to refineries and the workers who operate them. Together, we are sounding the alarm - California must not allow oil billionaires and their lobbyists to rewrite refinery safety rules.”-@apen4ej.bsky.social & #USWLocal5

Opinion | California shouldn't let oil companies rewrite refinery safety rules
Regulators will hold a hearing Jan. 15 at the OSHA Standards Board in Sacramento on changes that will weaken safety standards for refineries.

This longtime Seattle movie theater is closing
The Varsity Theatre is closing, effective Thursday, leaving the U District — once a hub of moviegoing — without a movie theater.

If you can walk/run towards a car you can most likely also walk/run away from said car but what do I know I just go by what I see in multiple verified videos shot from multiple angles

Although Tom Ragsdale’s oil companies owe New Mexico more than $3.5 million for pollution and unpaid fees, the state has recovered only about $50,000.

Drillers across the industry have employed similar tactics in what is known as “the playbook.”

The American Oil Industry’s Playbook, Illustrated: How Drillers Offload Costly Cleanup Onto the Public
Oil executive Tom Ragsdale walked away from his old wells, making the pollution left behind the state of New Mexico’s problem. His tactics, however, are ubiquitous in the industry.

"Democrats should insist on best practices, regulate methane leaks, promote electrification of drilling operations and support the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program."

Ok. I have advocated for these seemingly-anodyne measures, and hear resistance about defining terms, costs, feasibility, and more.
“The mind-set shift needed here is to acknowledge that while climate change is real and harmful, the utility of fossil fuels is not something the oil and gas industry tricked the public into,” Matthew Yglesias writes.
Opinion | Obama Supported It. The Left in Canada and Norway Do. Why Don’t Democrats?
Liberals should reconcile with America’s oil and gas industry.

For a high school AP English assignment about extended metaphor, I wrote about the progression of my grandfather's neurodegenerative disease and the Skylab space station's demise. It was...fine. It was also a HIGH SCHOOL WRITING ASSIGNMENT and not, say, a choice I'd employ as a professional journo 🤷🏽‍♀️
