This week's (from 2018) @rachelaliceroddy.bsky.social Panini al latte (milk buns)
www.theguardian.com/food/2018/no...
Superb! Easy to make & beautifully soft inside with a sweet crisp top. Split & filled with delicious Baron Bigod cheese. Also had some filled with cherry jam. I'll make these again.

Explored the East Midlands Airport trail with John. Some lovely art work and lots of interesting information about the local area & history of the airport. It was much more rural than we expected.

This week's (from 2018) @rachelaliceroddy.bsky.social recipe www.theguardian.com/food/2018/oc...
Chickpea and salt cod soup
Substituted the chickpeas with white beans and used hake as I could not find any salt cod. A really tasty and filling lunch - even though it's not Friday!

Had a lovely walk on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal with John from Thorne to Crowle. More wide views across the flat rural landscape. A few dog walkers & cyclists, an interesting lift bridge & tractors moving sugarbeet from field to farm.

Fab walk on the Selby Canal with John from Haddlesey flood lock on the River Aire to Selby lock on the River Ouse. From rural views to industrial heritage with beautiful autumn colours & the occasional glider overhead. Had time to explore the town too.

Thoroughly enjoyed our rescheduled visit to Selby parkrun with John. A flat out & back along the edge of the airfield. It felt appropriate to swap my usual finish song for Al Stewart's Flying Sorcery. Many thanks to all today's volunteers. Plus we got to collect Bi11 boomerang too!

Neither made nor eaten at midnight!

This week's @rachelaliceroddy.bsky.social Leftover polenta biscuits
www.theguardian.com/food/2025/oc...
Easy to make - even if I did have to cook some polenta for the occasion! Mine were definitely more bread pudding than flapjack in consistency and turned out not quite sweet enough for us.
October 23, 2025 at 7:44 AM
Had a lovely walk on the #StainforthAndKeadbyCanal with John from Keadby lock on the River Trent to Crowle. A very straight section with wide views across the flat rural landscape. Managed to avoid most of the rain too!

This week's @rachelaliceroddy.bsky.social Baked leek and egg gratin
www.theguardian.com/food/2025/oc...
An easy to make meal. I've never baked leeks before never mind as tree stumps! We had it with green salad topped with a vinegary pomegranate dressing. Delicious!

This week's @rachelaliceroddy.bsky.social Red peppers stuffed with orzo, tuna, capers & herbs
www.theguardian.com/food/2025/oc...
Delicious! Used celery fronds instead of capers, managed to find orzo & even remembered the basil leaf! I will be making these again.
The Albanesi bakery looks gorgeous.

Explored the remaining section of the #OakhamCanal with John. Started in the town centre then out to the countryside where the canal is still visible. Loads of really interesting information about the history of the town, canal and people via the audio walk.

For me Rachel's sausage ragu is a go to as is any version of minestrone, tomato sauce with meatballs & a chicken thigh traybake. Will try the Neapolitan mashed potato cake.
