In febrile times, exploring how we prepare teachers to address SCIs feels all the more important. We're delighted Rob Kanter and @helenfcarr.bsky.social will be sharing their important work and experiences with us at the next @htenuk.bsky.social conference.

Make sure it is in your diary. 🗓️
Join @htenuk.bsky.social for our November half-day online conference as we grapple with important questions in history educational research, teacher preparation, teacher professional development and teaching in schools.

This is really quite depressing - maybe I am naive or blinkered, but I cannot understand why you would choose not to introduce this.

Perhaps my favourite day in the teaching calendar: Robin Hood Prince of Thieves day, in which I get to share my favourite historical documentary with my trainees and then sadly explain why they can't use it to teach medieval history. Or English geography.

At least I didn't use a spoon.

Resharing this for new followers. Please do have a read of these articles about the history of a Muslim school in London and about the frankly absurd decisions made by the Michaela School about prayer.
I've been a bit of a lurker since I joined here a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to start with two posts shamelessly promoting a couple of articles I have written about religion and schooling. My third post will, in contrast, be a picture of a cat in a jumpsuit.

Seems like some sort of move towards sanity and positive that the DfE has actually responded to feedback.
Exclusive: The government has scrapped an 'excessive' requirement that mentors of trainee teachers undertake 20-hours of training with 'immediate effect', following complaints from school leaders

This has left me floored with sadness, it is an immeasurable loss. Helen did so much for so many of us in the history education community (and of course beyond it) and it's hard to imagine it without her. She was, as one of my students said recently, a "celebrity" and will be missed so very much.

(For those who have abandoned twitter and might have missed this post)
It is my sad job to tell you that my inspirational friend Helen Snelson died yesterday afternoon. I know how much she meant to so many of you and she was so grateful for your support and love these last few months.
