#OTD in 1943, Iris Watanabe of CA becomes the first Japanese American to join the Women's Army Corps. Watanabe's induction into the WAC was also slated for December 7. She was quoted saying, "I hope to help make the land of my ancestors pay for its unwarranted attack on my country."

One of the least remembered and most important stories from the 80s…
#OnThisDay, 15 Nov 1982, at least 11 women* from Greenham Common Peace Camp in the UK are sent to prison. They'd refused to be bound over to keep the peace after occupying a sentry box on the US base.

*some sources say 23, others 11.
