Remember, it's not just pupils who need words of positivity and kindness, but your colleagues and support staff.

Even the parents in your community could do with words of positivity and kindness.

Connecting and building strong relationships takes everyone in the community.

I’m planning for Christmas and would love to hear what Heads do, give, or put on for their staff. I always gather great ideas each year from here and then forget them by the following year.
Many thanks

My chair of governors is also a parent at my school. She frequently contacts me on my personal number at weekends, sometimes very late after 9.30pm or before 6.00am, specifically to discuss her child.
Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do?

Anonymous question from a colleague:
A part-time teacher has been asked to run an after-school club they didn’t agree to. Their headteacher insists they must stay until 4pm. Part-time staff should not be required to work outside contracted hours. Clarifying contracts and expectations is essential.

Senior leadership teams continue to shoulder significant pressure, and too many colleagues are reaching breaking point. Their work is demanding and often invisible. Prioritising their wellbeing is not optional; it is essential for the stability and direction of every school.
November 14, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Struggling with wellbeing is more common than many people admit. The strongest first step is to talk to someone you trust. Connection reduces pressure and helps you see the situation more clearly. You are not meant to carry everything alone.
November 14, 2025 at 7:31 PM
Culture drives everything. It shapes behaviour, decision making, and the way teams respond under pressure. As Louis Gerstner said, culture is the game. When we invest in people, we build collective capacity that strengthens every part of school life.

“Can anyone help?

If a Headteacher is already at the top of the pay scale, can Governors still award a one-off payment for exceptional performance?

I’d really appreciate some clarity or examples from others who’ve managed this.”
