This morning the Upper School gathered in the Double Gym for the Fall Athletic Assembly! Coaches gave out MVP and Coaches Awards to athletes on each team. The Doritty Trophy for field hockey was awarded to Macy in Grade 12 and the Friedland Cup for soccer was awarded to Maria in Grade 12.

The Junior School welcomed award-winning author Linda Trinh this week! Linda met with students in Grades 2 to 4 to speak about her series "The Nguyen Kids", which explores Vietnamese culture and identity through the eyes of the Nguyen siblings.

Grade 5s spent time volunteering at New Circles Community Services last week, sorting clothing donations! One of the services that New Circles offers is providing free new or gently used clothing to individuals and families in need who are living on a limited income.

This afternoon we held our traditional Remembrance Day service at the Junior School. We welcomed #HCAlum Jessica Oliver, who shared the story about how her grandparents met in Paris during World War II. We also heard from Lieutenant Kass O'Rouke, who spoke about her experiences in the armed forces.

Congrats to Elle in Grade 8! Along with her Vaughan Soccer Club 2012 OPDL team, she won the FTF Fall Showdown soccer tournament last weekend, beating out 12 teams to finish in first place.

Members of our Forum for Change Council led an activity yesterday that promoted sustainable ways of disposing of pumpkins after Halloween! Upper School students filled carved pumpkins with leaves and left them along the Lisa Hardie Trail to allow the nutrients to feed the earth and wildlife.

A group of Upper School students recently travelled to New Circles Community Services, where they learned about the Holiday Angel Program. This morning at our New Circles Assembly, the students spoke about their visit and shared stories of the families that we will be supporting this year.

Last month's Chartwells wellness theme at the Upper School highlighted Canada's Food Guide! Students learned about the importance of building a balanced plate and the difference between "sometimes" and "everyday" foods. They then created their own healthy, balanced, and colourful taco bowls.

This morning was Global Excursion Prayers at the Upper School! Students shared stories from a recent trip to Beijing and also spoke about the benefits of attending Round Square conferences. Mr. Brown also spoke about how travel is a great way to learn more about the world and about yourself.
