This is @2aspirin’s account for posting about art. I made art just in my head for a long time, but with some long ago limited experience in illustration and then taking photos for years as an outlet. I mostly paint now!

Oil painting on Stonehenge paper (which I love, texture-wise, like board, for detailed rendering). Limited gamut masking palette.
Restaurant in Asheville, NC at closing time.
References were old photos from a decade ago.
There are a few wonky spots to clean up. 🧽 📏 📐 🎨

I am not a big social media person as an artist so have to remind myself to come around and post some things. Here are 4 recent 5x7 inch oil paintings! Metal objects series. #art #oilpainting #metal

Collage, for a change-up:
This oil painting: A moment in a copper rectangle.
Speaking of rectangles, need to work on the left side casement window that is propped open.

The purpose if this was to paint fast. This was a real change-up for me. It’s a loose style.
I could see doing a series of small paintings, likely leave unframed and make them available for sale at October’s POST (Philadelphia Open Studio Tours) weekend.
I am more partial to the one on the left:

My daughter in my new studio space. I hear gunfire the whole time from the shooting range across the street but I don’t mind. I do indulge the surreal and our relationship to our time and to technology - and the ice cream truck rolls around and plays its music alongside the gunfire. #philly #studio

This one I posted on my other, regular acct here on bsky. 💙
My oil painting: Andy and the greedy elephant. Posting to my art acct too but as I weave some themes and callbacks into my work, I am performing a post of it here. 💙

A little painting from autumn. This may be the first and last time I try to paint like this with (the tiny pointy end of a) palette knife. I admire those who can paint with its broad edge as if spreading jam on toast.

A short guide to how my art is generated in my head. At left, the muse enters with my kettle, puts on water for my current favorite coffee*. I, on right, get to work despite being broken.
*Sigmatic Think currently. Don’t worry if you drink this too. It can’t possibly be responsible for maximalism.

I take a break from the regular painting and drawing broadcast to bring you #Metropolis mood. Amazing 1927 film.
Take a break, regroup, cool down, go back to visual language. Say something, even if only about a moment:

An oil painting from May 2024. Vintage thermos. 1970s-1980s. Pure nostalgia, with a drawing pad backdrop. #bsky.art #FebruArty

Hand sketches. Some say they don’t like drawing or painting hands. I think I have spent a lot of time in life noticing hands. They tell stories. Mine have lifted babies, worked crops, painted, typed long papers, opened portals, climbed mountains, raised up to speak and pulled into fists.

I use oil but also love acrylics. I hated the waste though. For any artists who follow me and who have encountered frustration with fast-drying acrylics. I discovered these wet palettes that game miniatures (figurine) painters use. You can get days instead of minutes out of it.
