Great news for UK Humanists right now. Yesterday abortion was decriminalised by the UK House of Commons. Today the Assisted Dying Bill was passed too. Social Liberalism is on the rise!

What is Humanism for? Should it just be about nice people with shared values agreeing with each other? Or should it be a Code For Ethical Living that promotes reason and egalitarian decency that we can adopt to change our world for the better?

Thoughts from an English man about President Jimmy Carter. What a beacon of decency he was. His light shone brightly whilst so many others seemed to forget about ordinary folk. Jimmy gave proper meaning to populism, appealing to the best in us, not the worst, as a more modern obvious example.

This Friday, in the UK House of Commons, there will be a vote on Assisted Dying. An issue that attracts strong, passionate views. Humanists believe that our lives, our bodies belong to ourselves. Not to religions, not to anyone else. Safeguards yes, denial of human rights - never.
