I don’t know who Geoffrey Weiss is, but he definitely has an impressive record collection. "This whole row is New Zealand punk and new wave". Original Sun Ra, Alex Chilton, very rare punk, and pretty much everything else. Plus lots of anecdotes as well.

One of the most striking albums of the ’90s, unfairly forgotten.
Every element here is utterly tense—vocals, guitars, drums—all on edge. A thrilling and profoundly inspiring listen. Imagine The Pop Group colliding with Captain Beefheart.

Happy 85th birthday, Neil Diamond.

My seventies idol, who infused my teenage years with a lasting musical melancholy, forever echoed in the self-confessional anthem ‘I Am… I Said’.

This is how we want to hear it: no brute force, free jazz that breathes. What emerges is a singular musical cocktail—more than jazz alone, a journey of searching and, at the same time, of surrender. From this balance comes music that holds the ear in suspense. Jimmy Lyons - Other Afternoons (1969)

A blast from the past — this American 1970s police car still cruises around here sometimes.

Antonio Jobim - Wave. It moves with an easy rhythm, like a tropical summer breeze warm enough to go unnoticed at first. Beneath that mildness, something doesn’t quite align—ice cubes slower to melt than they should be, their quiet cold slightly out of step with a cocktail grown heavy in the heat.

Gotta love an original US pressing, complete with authentic, battle-scarred American ring wear. Record’s fine and all, but Anthem of the Sun still wipes the floor with it.

I’ve always had a soft spot for super catchy melodic dance pop that’s also really well made. Smart songs, sometimes with a bit of irony in the lyrics. The way Dua Lipa sings fit perfectly with that sleek disco-funk sound. A modern dance pop classic. A masterpiece. Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia (2020)

Honora is an upcoming album by Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassplayer Flea. "The cover is a photograph of my mother in law, in Iran in late 60’s, the beautiful Shahin Badiyan. Shahin is a strong Persian woman, and the spirit of a free Iran lives in her heart." Featuring Nick Cave and Thom Yorke.

Back when Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth were still together, this record came into being. Kim did the cover art; Thurston lets the guitar run wild. A surge of drones, and feedback—sometimes hypnotically monotone. Flipped Out Bride (2006). 500 hand-numbered copies.

Bob Weir was the youngest member of the Grateful Dead when the band was formed in 1965. His mother made frontman Jerry Garcia and the other band members ensure that her 17-year-old son got home safely every night and was back at school the next day. #BobWeir RIP #GratefulDead
