For a story I'm working on, I'd love to know what you're doing to get through these times. Have you started a new routine or practice that's helping you? Are you volunteering, ramping up your activism, taking up a new hobby? How are you lighting a path through the awful right now?

Democracy has literally failed us. The fact that our elected representatives can cravenly vote for legislation that hurts so many people so badly, and benefits a privileged few--that right there is no longer democracy. Shame on all of you who voted for this bill. Special shame on Donald Trump.

This is your regular reminder that executive orders are not royal decrees. Because America has no king.

Wow. This is maybe not surprising news but it is horribly disheartening. Columbia University, like white-shoe law firms, caves to the Trump administration's obscene demands., including making it illegal to wear a mask on the Columbia campus. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/21/n...

Good grief. We shouldn't even have to say this. So much for Republicans being defenders of tradition--more like smashers, especially when it comes to the Fourth Estate. I will never trust a Republican again.
From Opinion

“Politicians are allowed to criticize the press,” writes the editorial board. “But there is a difference between using language and using muscle.” The Trump administration “is mustering the arms of government to suppress speech it doesn’t like and compel words and ideas it prefers.”

A new meta analysis again shows fitness beats fatness in influencing mortality and heart disease. In 20 studies, people who were fat + fit had the same levels of mortality + heart disease as people who were thin + fit. Lack of fitness at any BMI raises those levels. So tired of this debate.

Thank you @roxanegay.bsky.social for this much-needed reminder that what's happening now is not normal and we should refuse to normalize it. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/17/o...
Opinion | Enough
To suggest we should yield even a little to Trump’s odious politics is unacceptable. Even if we did, it would never be enough.
