Programmer/Designer/Dreamer. Currently working on prototyping some games.

Ex: Hytale, Assassin's Creed, Injustice, Project Deios, and more.
Today youtube’s algorithms recommended this video to me. I think it’s one of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen.

Watched #Superman. I expected nothing and was impressed. What a great movie! Something in it really struck me. A bright, inspiring, kind movie. Its vibe and aesthetics reminded me of Scott Pilgrim.

Honestly I don't understand all these "Look! AI completely wrote a game with just a couple of prompts! This is incredible!". I tried asking Cursor to write a full feature for a prototype and got poorly working dumb crap that you'll get tired of fixing.

What's in common between online courses and games on steam? People buy them in order not to complete them.

It's interesting to observe how the approach to programming changes when you apply open-ended design during game prototyping. No rigid constraints, no hardcoding. This approach allows for quick design changes and experimentation.

I really like "just make it exist first, you can make it good later" thing. Seeing such posts reminds me once again that when prototyping it’s important to build the prototype, not to focus on designing the architecture. #indiegames

PSP is the GOAT! It was my first console ever. So many awesome games on it. One underrated gem I loved was Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2: The Phantom Fortress. I hadn’t even watched Naruto lol, but that game was just so good.

I find the entity interaction matrix very useful when you designing mechanics. It helps identify gaps as well as interesting opportunities in your initial idea. The key is not to try to fill every cell of the table, piling up unnecessary things.

Example from Braid:

Which game suits this pic for you?

For me it used to be dota 2 for sure.

Have you ever wanted to play a game just because of its title? Like, you see the name and think "wow, that sounds awesome."

That happened to me with The World Ends With You.

Submitted my first game for Thinky Puzzle Game Jam 5. Made a lot of mistakes, learned a lot of lessons. Did the level design in the last 40 minutes. It definitely turned out rough, but I'm happy I saw it through to the end.

Have a good time working on Hytale. Great team, ambitious project, interesting choice of technologies. It's a real shame things turned out this way.

On Depth vs. Complexity in game mechanics: if you're looking for examples of "low complexity / high depth", I recommend checking out modern puzzle games. In this genre, designers are currently striving to achieve maximum elegance. Examples: A Monster's Expedition, The Witness.

Currently working on a game for a game jam, and it’s so satisfying when your project, which has been a mess for a long time, finally starts coming together into something cohesive. What a nice feeling! But there’s still a ton of work ahead...

In learning game design, it greatly helps to start playing many different games of various genres and pay attention to what is done well and what is done poorly. I began taking notes after each game. This way, I started identifying things I want to focus on.

I spent DAYS structuring my notes, brainstorms, and concepts in @notion.com. Before that, everything was a mess and scattered everywhere. Don’t repeat my mistakes - organize your work from the start.

The popular mantra "ideas don't matter, execution does" is wrong when it comes to developing your own game. You can spend years on something you should have scrapped after the prototype.
Don’t do ideas that are “just good enough”.
