‘That’s naughty’, said the pedestrian crossing the road as I pushed off from the 🚦. While the light for motor vehicles was still red, the cyclist light had turned green. I had to brake to avoid them, as they crossed with their light still red. Yes, that is naughty.

Nothing quite like the feeling of realising no one has ever read these pages in a journal (this one’s from 1863!), after finding the pages un-cut and asking the librarian for help… access granted!

I (co)-wrote a book! The catalogue for the Piranesi Print Project I co-curated at the British School at Rome has been published, and I am very proud of it! The research for this project was so interesting, and there’s still work to do! Thank you to everyone who was involved, my heart is full ❤️
We are thrilled to announce the arrival of the long-awaited catalogue, "Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Etchings from the Research Collections of the British School at Rome", authored by Clare Hornsby and Caroline Barron. This project is now complete, and we are so happy to finally share it with you!

This studentship is only possible because of the generosity of the late Prof. Em. Jane F. Gardner, world leading expert in Roman law, women, and the family among many other things, who passed away in 2023. When you order a book from the library and the reservation slip is marking the precise page you wanted to consult. That’s some prophetic librarian-ing!

I only realised 4 hours after arriving at the Senate House that I had 1) left my lights on my bike and 2) left the lights on!! Some kind soul must have switched them off for me, so I can cycle safely home this evening. #tinyjoys

@bsrome.bsky.social a wonderful evening catching up with and meeting BSR alumni. In sum: we all agree the BSR is the very best of places. Long may it continue. Long should we support it!

I’m perfectly fine with most of the historical inaccuracies in Ridley Scott films, but cutting ancient men kissing seems like the biggest inaccuracy of all.
