Jan. 14, 1919: Winston Churchill became Secretary of State for Air in Great Britain. I met Churchill in 1960. He said: "You're an intellectual. Just don't act like it." I was a 12. He was 83.

Jan. 14, 1967: The first psychedelic happening occurred in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Thousands of hippies came together to love each other, hear music and take drugs. The song “San Francisco” by Scott McKenzie tributed that event.

Betty Furness demonstrated Westinghouse products on commercials during CBS-TV's "Studio One," 1948-1959. Betty was an actress but became known as a consumer advocate because of the TV show. Remembering Betty's TV commercial slogan, "You can be sure if it's Westinghouse."

Celebrating the 54th edition of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve." Conceived as a competitor to Guy Lombardo's New Year's Eve broadcasts on CBS. In 1974, the program moved to ABC, with Dick Clark as host. Still runs on ABC, hosted by Ryan Seacrest. Pictured, Hank Moore with Dick Clark.

Dec. 30, 1995: The Beatles 71st single, “Free as a Bird,” entered the charts. It was originally a 1977 demo by John Lennon. New vocals and instrumentation by the surviving Beatles were added. The next Beatles single was “Now and Then,” released Nov. 2, 2023.

Dec. 20, 1957: Elvis Presley received his draft notice from the U.S. Army. He was served at his Memphis home. Presley got a deferment to finish work on his film “King Creole.” He entered the service in spring, 1958 and served two years in Germany.

Dec. 12, 1964: Righteous Brothers’ winner “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” charted, reaching #2. Bobby Hatfield wasn’t sure of record’s possibilities. He asked producer Phil Spector, “What do I do when Bill Medley is singing first verse?” Spector’s response was, “You can go directly to the bank.”

With love & prayers to those killed and injured in Australia on the first day of Hanukkah. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, commonly called a menorah. Candles are lit each evening. All 8 candles are lit together on the final night of the festival.

In honor of National Giving Month, remembering Maureen Reagan, whom I met at 1972 charity gala. She was celebrity advocate for Save the Children Foundation & I was emcee. In 1998, Hank Moore was opening speaker at non-profit summit in Philadelphia, PA, with Maureen Reagan & General Colin Powell.
