We used to sail little paper or popsicle stick boats down the gutters during the period when the ice was melting. 😆

The polio vaccine came out in 1955 in Canada. Before that, lots got polio. You were lucky. My parents knew lots of families affected. Keep on with your delusions. Do you have dementia or just suffer from severe nostalgia?

John Wick time.

Folks that want to go back to "simpler times" either didn't live back then, or forget what it was like. You couldn't drag me back. We were always looking forward to progress.

I was 6 when we got a B&W TV with 1 channel.
I was 15 by the time we got a colour TV & 3 channels.
A single household Stereo at 14.
A wall mounted dial phone in the kitchen so no private talk.
Hard to reach your friends to do anything.
Anything usually meant hanging out at their house. 😬

If anyone wants to experience life in the late 1950s & early 1960s:
Shut off all electronics in your home: PC, TV, Stereo, smartphone, Internet.
Play a mono 45 record player or AM radio.
Watch the grass grow.
Contemplate your navel.
Eliminate most food choices.
That was life.
Boring as hell.

I was there too. Don't gild the lily. You have a fogged memory which is normal. People got bullied and beat up. Money was tight. Racism was commonplace. You can't shit me. I remember even if you don't. It was no golden age.

The times weren’t actually simpler. You were a kid and blissfully unaware of what was happening.

Any thug wearing a death mask while armed should be shot on sight. No questions needed. Obvious terrorist.

It was more the C in Caesar that I found new. Soft C or hard K.
He's dead anyway.

"Irregardless"
HERESY!!
Except it's now allowed. 😂

We're going down a rabbit hole but he wrote mostly in Latin for his major works. Greek was considered a more elevated language & he was adept in it. He spoke & read/wrote in both. The question was: how to pronounce Julius Caesar? It seems to be Wholius or Ulious Kaiser.
Which isn't what I expected.

"He was a renowned Roman statesman, general, and author of Latin prose"

He spoke and wrote in Latin. He was educated enough that he could speak and write Greek but his main language was Latin.

As a second language.

I meant that these fools didn't necessarily mean to hurt their kids. They are just ignorant. And to be clear: Ignorant means you haven't been exposed to the truth. Stupidity is when you have, but choose to ignore it. I respect expertise. I have expertise in my field but not in other fields.
February 4, 2026 at 6:04 AM
How about Latin?
February 4, 2026 at 5:59 AM
However, I just heard that the pronounced the C in the name closer to K. So "Kaiser" is not wrong.
Hoolius Kaiser.

On the gut comment, I was agreeing with you.
