Gun Violence Prevention Illinois
@gvpillinois.bsky.social
Gun violence is a daily reality in America – but we’re fighting back by breaking the gun lobby’s hold on Illinois lawmakers.

G-PAC is building a political force to hold lawmakers accountable and continue the fight to keep our communities safe.
Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance.

We remember the trans lives taken by violence—and recommit to building a future where they are safe, supported, and free.

This week also marks 3 years since the mass shooting at Club Q, a beloved LGBTQ+ space.

Whether they’re civilians or federal agents, the fact that public spaces now plan for people showing up with military-grade weapons should be a national warning sign.

This isn’t freedom. It’s fear. And it’s undermining what it means to be safe in public.

82% of Illinois’ licensed gun “manufacturers” didn’t make a single gun.

So why do they have licenses?

To buy in bulk, dodge oversight, and move guns across state lines.

It’s a loophole. And it’s putting lives at risk.

Thanks to @vpcinfo.bsky.social for exposing it.

Chicago is safer today because of years of hard, local work.

✅ Smart gun laws
✅ Community investment
✅ Coordinated law enforcement

It’s not because of political stunts or federal fearmongering.
This is a locally-led success story, and Illinois should be proud.

“Chicago is well positioned today to maintain the decline in violence — but there is nothing inevitable about it.”

– John Schmidt, former U.S. Associate Attorney General & G-PAC Board Member

That’s why we fight for stronger laws—and hold leaders accountable when they fall short.

We’re proud to have a gun safety majority in the Illinois legislature.

60% of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle earned an A on our 2025 Gun Safety Report Card.

Gun violence is down — in Chicago and beyond.

📉 Over the past 12 weeks, Chicago saw nearly 19 fewer shooting victims.
📉 East St. Louis, Decatur, and Rockford also saw declines.
📊 The trend: real, measurable progress.

We’re seeing more guns on our streets than ever before—but now they’re federal.

This isn’t border enforcement. It’s militarization, under a familiar political playbook.

Natalie Moore breaks it down with historical context + clarity.

We were honored to be in the room with two champions for gun safety: @bobmorganil.bsky.social and @gabbygiffords.bsky.social.

Gabby is — and always will be — a hero and an inspiration to us and so many in this movement.

Thank you both for continuing to lead the way. 💙

We are honored to present Gov. Gretchen Whitmer with the 2025 Profile in Courage Award.

As she reminded us: real progress takes persistence.

Michigan and Illinois are proving what’s possible when we elect gun safety champions and pass common-sense, life-saving laws.

While others deploy troops, Chicagoans are deploying compassion.

This mother’s work with young people shows what community-led prevention really means: building safety through connection, not fear.

Let’s call this what it is: a dangerous abuse of power.

The President is threatening to jail Illinois leaders while sending another state’s National Guard into our streets against our own will.
October 8, 2025 at 5:27 PM
We applaud Governor Pritzker, AG Raoul, and Mayor Johnson for taking legal action to block what they’ve called an “illegal, dangerous, and unconstitutional federalization” of the Illinois National Guard.

Their leadership shows what public safety really looks like: prevention, not force.
October 6, 2025 at 10:07 PM
The President is federalizing the IL National Guard against the will of our own governor.

This is federal overreach at its most dangerous: undermining trust, destabilizing communities, and threatening the progress we've made.

Real safety is built from the ground up — by communities, not commands.

“Until we break our lust for these guns, nothing will change.”

Every family mourning a loved one knows this truth.

We owe them more than words—we owe them action.

Today is a reminder that change is possible without fear, force, or bloodshed. For us, it means rejecting the false choice between freedom and safety — and recommitting to a future where our communities thrive free from gun violence.

We have achieved historic reductions in violence through prevention, investment, and strong gun laws.

That real progress is now endangered—not by crime itself, but by a political strategy that substitutes fear and force for proven solutions. We reject it in the strongest terms.
October 1, 2025 at 5:31 PM
The President went further, describing an “invasion from within … no different than a foreign enemy.”

That is language of war, aimed at Americans. It signals an approach that risks turning federal power against the very people it should protect.
October 1, 2025 at 5:31 PM
While ICE pulls people off the street in downtown Chicago, Trump told Pentagon leaders that Democrat-run cities should serve as “training grounds for our military” and that “we’re going into Chicago very soon.”

This grave escalation likens our neighborhoods to battlefields.
October 1, 2025 at 5:31 PM
While the circus around a potential federal deployment dominates headlines, too often the people most impacted—victims and families—are forgotten.

Gun violence is not a political show. It’s about lives cut short, loved ones grieving, and communities carrying the weight every day.

“The National Guard and police show up after a shooting has occurred. They don’t show up before. That’s not stopping or saving anyone.” — Trevon Bosley

Chicago doesn’t need reactive shows of force. We need prevention: stronger national gun laws and real community investment.
