I thank all co-authors for this work. By combining phylogenetics, structural prediction, and functional assays, we demonstrate that the isochorismate-based SA biosynthetic pathway emerged during Brassicales evolution.

Very sad news. Great memories of my fellow downy mildew researcher across the Atlantic. He was a strong supporter of the Oomycete and MPMI communities. John passed away way too soon and will be missed.
Sad news. John McDowell has passed away. He was not only a brilliant scientist, he was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He worked hard, did a tremendous job in plant pathology and was a wonderful colleague. He is gone way too soon.

What the world really needs is a vibe shift. Most people who don’t farm don’t think much about agriculture, & we’ve fallen into a trap of assuming there’s virtuous agriculture and evil agriculture. But we farm because we need to eat. Let’s use biotech and other tech to make less of a mess.
