What separates functional democracies from authoritarian states? Recent happenings have made me think of a few: Rule of law, with a focus on an independent judiciary, election integrity and voting access to citizens, means to combat corruption, check and balances in power via separate houses. . .

Didn’t spend much time on twitter, but clearly a toxic cesspool now. Hoping this is different. Meta stuff is massively annoying to use now, as well, though apparently necessary to keep in touch with my friends on other countries and to keep up with the local music scene.
