Postdoc Fellow Jordan Bretzfelder served as a volunteer crew geologist during a 28-day lunar surface mission simulated by NASA. Such simulations, known as analogs, replicate elements of a real mission so that researchers can study crew performance and test instruments developed for use in space.

Georgia Tech researchers have received NASA funding to support the Europa Clipper mission. Launched in 2024, the spacecraft is expected to reach Jupiter’s orbit in 2030 in order to investigate the planet’s icy moon #Europa.

The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale was developed in 1969 by Georgia Tech alum Herbert Saffir (CE 1940) and meteorologist Robert Simpson. It classifies hurricanes by sustained wind speed, from Category 1 to Category 5.
