Per the latest Drought Monitor released on Thursday morning, most of North Carolina is in drought status and most of that drought area is in "severe" drought. A few locations are in "extreme" drought status.

Just a warning that its still winter... After the warm-up we're seeing now through the end of this week, a shot of cold air will arrive early next week, bumping our daytime highs back to below average levels for late February.

And interesting factoid... If this rain had been the snow we received two weekends ago, it would have measured 20.7 inches of snow accumulation at the 1 to 23 ratio.

Good information from UNC Health about the ongoing measles outbreak...
"In North Carolina, there were only 35 cases of the disease from 2005 to 2024. But in the first six weeks of 2026, there were 18 cases in the state."

A friend of mine with the NWS researched the answer for us.

A bit more information on the history of measles cases in the United States... On average, before the Measles vaccine, there were 500,000 cases in the US every year. In 2000, Measles was considered eliminated in the US. Since January 2025, there have been over 3000 cases in the US. #SpectrumNews1
