Anyone have deep thoughts about player characters being total blank slates?

I'm deeply proud of the freedom we offer in #OuterWorlds2, but the narrative sometimes suffers w/out a properly defined protagonist. I wonder how it'd feel if social archetypes forced specific roleplaying paths instead?

I've honestly never been this proud of a game I've worked on.

It turned out awesome.
We are so happy of the words of praise and excitement we have been hearing about our new trailer for the Outer Worlds 2 at The Game Awards!

Everyone be safe, have fun, find solidarity in your fellow Americans, and generously apply talc before you get dressed.

By the time you realize how moist it is inside your wombat costume, it'll be far too late to do anything about it.

Honestly, I'm damn impressed with what our @obsidian.net team and Microsoft whipped up for this show. It's both entertaining and a great ad for the game.

If you like engaging RPGs steeped in satirical humor, give it a watch.

It's the kind of night that has me awake at 03:35, earnestly pondering whether I hated The Last Jedi or Rise of Skywalker more.

Finally tried Warhammer 40k @tacticusgame.bsky.social. Enjoyed the primary gameplay loop and cute graphics.

Was confused by the complete lack of narrative.

But the aggressive monetization totally ruins it. I don't understand why casual games demand you either give all your money or none of it.

Pondering terrible choices with high degrees of life-shortening risk - and all I can hear is Dennis Leary saying, "Yeah, but it's the ones at the end! Those years suck. You can have those years!"

Steam was compromised.

Update your passwords, even if you use 2FA.

And if you're using the same password on multiple sites/apps, stop it. You know better than that.

It's not 1997 anymore.

As I'm enjoying #Avowed, I keep wondering what it'd take to get Obsidian to do a full historical combat game?

Oh! You play Andreas' sibling, avenging his death after the events of #Pentiment, hacking, slicing, and shooting your way across 16th cent Europe!

Whaddya think, @jesawyer.bsky.social? 😆

Critical rule for creatives: Don't get attached to your work.

Today, I deleted several pages that I loved and replaced them with something far less entertaining, but that served the story exponentially more.

It felt like slamming my nadgy-bits in a car door, but it was the right thing to do.

I will only...
Bah! Who am I kidding?

I want to run an RPG campaign where every session starts with chaotic combat filled with terrifying monsters - and then becomes a purely roleplay experience focused on the adventurers working through their horrific PTSD.

We've got an honest to goodness trailer! With gameplay and jokes and words that sound smart but may or may not be real!

#GodzillaMinusOne did not disappoint. I haven't enjoyed a #Godzilla movie that much in a long time.

That said, it's a huge reminder that you should make your protagonist at least a little likable. I haven't rooted so hard for someone to be eaten since I watched The Walking Dead.

Spent half the night coveting the lifestyle of writers in the early 20th century. Super fancy bars, drinking yourself close to death in Southern European hotels, being an ex-pat in the south pacific.

Then I realized I work remote and could totally do it... I'm just a damn coward.

Write a horror movie synopsis of a non-horror movie.

Garfield: A monstrous, rage-filled cat psychologically tortures a man while obsessively plotting the murder of a kitten he deems too pretty to live.

Okay, I'm not into GunPlay-- heck, I may never have watched a full episode of Gundam--but if I find these files, I just might start.
Incredible. Bandai released a stupid Gunpla NFT metaverse thing, but they didn’t secure or encrypt the files…so there are now just full-on trade-secret CAD files out there of MG kits, including unreleased ones, ready for 3D printing or bootlegging

Had the realization that trying to find the discipline to write for your side project after a 9 hour day of writing for your main project is exactly like trying to stab yourself in the thigh.

That's it. I don't know why or how it might be a deeper metaphor--I just know it's true.

What's it like to be a professional writer?

I spent 4 hours iterating on the name of a hotel and I still got it wrong.

Pro Tip for RPG game writers: Never, ever stop and figure out how little of your work any single, individual player will see. Once you realize that person only experiences 14% of your content, those giant branching dialog trees feel way less worthwhile.

Working in the industry means I know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that someone at Bethesda went horse from repeatedly screaming, "No! We cannot ship Starfield with an Inventory system this broken!" over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
