I visited Wee Wild Ones child care at The Ampersand. Guided by children's inquiries, they promote exploration & learning through play, nature & movement; particularly meeting needs of underserved children. Here with CEO Chloe Dusser, center, and her colleague Merilyn.

1/4: World events have underlined the need for Canada to have a breadth of customers for our oil and gas products (Canada's biggest export by a large margin) including the capacity to move those products to our customers.

1/4: I often lament the arrogance of this government when it simply disregards instructions from Parliament.

Another example is the Foreign Agent Registry.

1/6: In the News: A U.S. federal judge has ruled in favour of Enbridge, blocking Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's efforts to revoke Enbridge's 1953 easement, thus allowing Enbridge to continue to operate the twin Line 5 oil and gas pipelines in the Straits of Mackinac.

The verdict against Jimmy Lai under Hong Kong’s security law is troubling. No democracy should criminalize free expression. Canada must stand for fair trials and fundamental freedoms.

1/3: I am frequently critical of govt spending. Bureaucrats and politicians simply don't treat taxpayers' money the way they would if it were actually their own.

Case in point: Canada Revenue spent $18 M to develop "Charlie", a chatbot supposed to augment human call centre experts.

1/9: Long read but this is everyone's top issue:

As we head into the holidays, food price news is ever more devastating.

Fresh fruit is up 4.4% year-over-year, fruit juice 4.8% and oranges 7.8%. Coffee and tea are up by more than 23% and lettuce by an astounding 27%.

1/3: The Alberta Conservative Caucus has collectively written to the Prime Minister asking for appropriate action in light of the Supreme Court decision to strike down the one-year mandatory minimum sentence for possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSAEM).

1/2: As Jewish communities come together tonight to mark Hanukkah, I join people around the world mourning the tragic terrorist attack on Hanukkah celebrations in Australia.

An occasion meant to bring light into the darkness has horrible meaning today.

1/2: The House will rise today or tomorrow to allow for six weeks of constituency-based work, and a few days of rest for the holidays. We return to Ottawa January 26.

Before leaving Ottawa, I recorded my annual Christmas message which will be posted December 24 and 25.

1/2: I was interviewed on CBC's The Eyeopener about the Conservative attempt to get the Liberals to formally commit to the pipeline MoU.

I made the point that delays are baked into the MoU: it is essentially an agreement to make seven more agreements.

1/3: Today the House debates a Conservative motion asking to formally endorse the govt's intent to take the steps required to build a pipeline from Alberta to the BC coast, including consultation as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding recently signed by PM Carney & Premier Smith.

1/2: I participated in the Canada-Kosovo Friendship Group meeting with the Ambassador of Kosovo, Adriatik Kryeziu. Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008 and 101 UN states recognize it as an independent state, although Serbia still considers it a province.

1/2: I attended the Open House for the Inn From the Cold. The Inn helps families find shelter - an estimated 3,000 Calgarians without a home are part of a family, with children under 18 making up 60% of that number. On any given night, it is estimated that 200 families are without shelter.

1/3: I participated in the "Unblock the Pipeline Gridlock" conference hosted by the Indian Resource Council.

I am pictured with my colleagues Ellis Ross (MP, Skeena—Bulkley Valley in BC - where a pipeline terminus would likely be located) and Billy Morin (MP, Edmonton Northwest).
