We recently completed a pre-design microclimate analysis for a proposed development along NYC’s High Line — assessing its impact on surrounding planted public spaces.
Using our CityDigitalTwin model, we explored multiple design scenarios.

This. We can draft better policy and codes and make this happen in North America. People deserve better urban design and cities that are walkable and bike-able.
A lot of discussion in the Embodied Carbon Symposium and @holz-bau.bsky.social Mike Eliason’s presentation about how people love to go to Europe or ski resorts and walk or bike but would never allow it at home, I thought of this cartoon….

Cities are getting hotter—and it’s not just the weather.
Hard surfaces like asphalt + concrete trap heat, creating urban heat islands that put lives and infrastructure at risk.

At Planet Greenleaves, we map where smarter surfaces + shade can cool entire neighborhoods.

Happy Earth Day

Big changes don’t happen overnight.
But it does begin with—
🌱 one tree at a time,
📊 one analysis at a time,
🌡️ one heat island,
🌆 one region at a time.

Why do surfaces play such a critical role in climate analysis?
Microclimates emerge from the complex interplay between surface characteristics and atmospheric conditions. Accurate modeling requires tools that account for how different surfaces fundamentally shape local climate dynamics.

And the disasters continue:

Wildfires in Oklahoma and Texas
Accelerated land subsidence in Oahu
Record temperatures in Australia, Quebec, and British Columbia
Floods in South Africa and Italy

🔴 Yet some governments still hesitate to act. Some even deny the crisis exists.

Since the start of the year, the climate disaster list keeps growing:

New Year floods in England and Wales
Wildfires in Los Angeles
Flooding in São Paulo, Brazil
Flooding in Ukraine
Floods in Bahía Blanca, Argentina

The climate crisis isn't a future problem—it's happening now. 🌎

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

Cities are adopting green policies, but face a critical challenge: comprehensive microclimate analyses traditionally require multiple specialized consultants.

Urban planners deserve better tools for building resilient, environmentally conscious cities.

As our cities get hotter, we need solutions to keep urban spaces comfortable. The answer is beautiful and effective: trees! 🌳
Small-Leaved Lime can cool surrounding air by nearly 3°C, making it feel up to 11°C cooler! Strategic placement amplifies this cooling effect.
