Good to find The Threepenny Review in the post today. Poems by Robert Pinsky, Okwudili Nebeolisa, Jane Zwart and others, including one by me - about translating Rilke and recalling an incident from when I lived in Mannheim

Charles I returned for a third visit to Little Gidding today, more a windswept king than a broken one. It's 400 years since Nicholas Ferrar established his community there.

Fascinating. Elgar hasn't really made his presence felt in film and drama, though there was Ken Russell & I think David Pownall did a play about him. There's a novel too, I seem to recall: Gerontius, perhaps the basis for this?
What role should music play in our lives? A new film by Nicholas Hytner, premiering in Toronto next week, shows a Yorkshire choirmaster's struggle to stage a production of Elgar's 'Dream of Gerontius' amidst the upheaval of the First World War.

Always a delight to see the Horse peering at me from a jiffy bag. This issue is very special - not least a long piece by Edna Longley on Michael's poetry and a heartening reminder of Kathleen Raine's importance by Kirsten MacQuarrie

This collection of mini essays, musings, recollections, anecdotes and new poems is something I've been working on for a few years. @renardpress have made a beautiful job of it (as they did the anthology Contraflow)
Last bit of #bookpost for the weekend, and it’s a real pleasure to see this glorious hybrid book navigating poetry with @greeningpoet.bsky.social in print. ✈️
