Wildlife geek, keen walker, hopping about Málaga (Spain) and elsewhere seeing what's here. Believe in human rights, equality (= tax the mega rich), and keen to be green 💚
Driving in winter I notice white Wagtails everywhere. They are here in summer too, but perhaps spend more time in the weeds.so less seen. Love those little clockwork birds with their dipping flight.

Believe I just saw a Merlin flying up the valley near Cruce de Árchez! 😎

Saw red fox on the Árchez road last night. I know they are 10 a penny in many English cities, but here they are scarce and shy; always feels like a privilege to spot one disappearing into the bushes.

First a shower of rain, then a sighting of a pair of Short-toed Eagle's. Pleasures in late July.

Trying to capture swifts in the evening, that fly screaming over the houses, just for fun - very difficult even with a good camera and lots of experience; with a mobile, mpossible. You'll just have to trust me. They were there; it was glorious.

Some 10 days back I walked back from Sayalonga to Cómpeta: not ideal because of the heat: shade to shade (there wasn't much) and lots of water. Nice views of the Torrox valley and Cómpeta. And the Cicadas are back and have started up their summer static song!

Missed getting a shot of the Short-toed eagle this afternoon, but pleased with this chance encounter with an early Grasshopper instar.

Saw dozens and dozens of Spanish Gatekeeper butterflies on a walk in the Sierra Almijarra natural park late.may. they were everywhere, but especially busy on the Spanish Marjoram, a small rather dull shrub growing by the track, but apparently a huge draw for the. Beautiful.

Crag Martin. Obviously it's part of it all; the natural world is not fairyland - but I feel for the live bee being fed to a chick.
I guess that, like a bee-eater she had knocked the bee's sting off on a branch or edge before feeding it to the chicks.

Sunday roast? 😮 My brother heard rattlin and knew a bird had fallen in. He had to detached the piping to let it get down (they can't go up) then wait patiently. When it finally reached the stove this young jackdaw was exhausted. Eventually hopped out of the opened door. Hope it's OK. #secondchances

Great visit to El Tocororro, Cuban rte in Nerja a few weeks back. I like vertical gardens - always live the green - but inside... not sure. It can hardly help biodiversity inside - and the water and lighting cost. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Cool place though. 😎

Yesterday, when I had my good bridge camera, nothing. Today,.when I don't, a pair of crested larks hoping about the vineyard. Not complaining, still a privilege to see them just... a bit frustrating

I don't see woodlouses so often here: they are either so deep in the undergrowth of abandoned fieles they are invisible or not present as all undergrowth has been striped away. I find them a delightful family; as a kid I was fascinated by their ability to curl up in a ball.

The fashion industry needs a short to the system. Enslaved labor and exploitation of the poorest; environmentally disastrous and - it seems - completely unaccountable.

'Hoppers near Canillas de Albaida, Málaga 'bout 10 ft frm each other. 1st Oedipoda caerulescens, Blue-winged ghopper. 2nd Aiolopus thalassinus, Slender Green-winged ghopper. The blues are much more common here... or maybe the slenders are really good at hiding!

Thrilled to see a pair of golden oriols fly across the road and down the valley, while driving to Árchez. No mistaking that bright yellow body and black wings! Not super rare here but shy and surprisingly hard to spot. Made me grin all the way home.

Time yesterday in lovely Málaga city; such a relaxed atmospheric in the centre and the port. Don't like to see the cruise ships much... but perhaps Málaga is better adapted to the tourist boom and busted they bring than places like Cádiz.
