Looking at the @fremont Downtown #LasVegas in a postcard from the 60s. Nice modern rooms with TVs but looks like a weird way to hold an interview.

OTD 2009 the first hotel in City Center (now Aria Campus) opened. MGM Mirage and Dubai World executives opened Vdara; a non-gaming 57-story, 1,495-suite confo-hotel luxury property. Its now owned by Blackstone Group & managed by MGM.

OTD 1990 the MGM Marina Hotel (originally named Marina Hotel) closed. It had opened on the #LasVegas Strip in 1975. Kirk Kerkorian bought it in 1989 along with the Tropicana Golf Course. The Marina building is now the West Wing of the MGM Grand.

OTD 1990 the MGM Marina Hotel (originally named Marina Hotel) closed. It had opened on the #LasVegas Strip in 1975. Kirk Kerkorian bought it in 1989 along with the Tropicana Golf Course. The Marina building is now the West Wing of the MGM Grand.
OTD 1988, at 7am, the Silver Slipper on the #LasVegas Strip closed forever. The place had opened in 1950 on the grounds of the Last Frontier. It was demolished to make room for a Frontier Hotel expansion that never happened. The site remains vacant today.

OTD 1997 the first iteration of the Aladdin Hotel on the #LasVegas Strip closed. It had begun as the Tally Ho Hotel in 1962. A liquidation sale began March, 1998 and the resort (except the Aladdin Theatre) was imploded in April, 1998.

This old guy and his lovely bride loved "Man on the Inside". Great cast and, equally, great writing. But most of the "residents" are too healthy. We missed at least one lady carrying a purse the size of a Samsonite into the dining room unpacking a dozen prescriptions. @kentremendous.bsky.social

About this date 1996 Boyd Gaming reopened Main Street Station in Downtown #LasVegas. Boyd bought the closed hotel of the same name in 1993 and spent $45 million in renovations.

OTD 1989 a new era dawned in #LasVegas with the opening of Steve Wynn's The Mirage. The project went over budget, costing about $630 million, making it (at the time) the most expensive hotel-casino in history. It closed last July.

OTD 1946 #LasVegas gluttony rose to new heights with the introduction of the all-you-can-eat Buffet at the El Rancho Vegas hotel. From 1AM you could chow down for just $1 with breakfast items added to the menu at 4AM.
