Gaming challenges and an imminent COIN #boardgame review project are in today’s blog. I don’t generally do challenges, but this one will be of some use…

Sometimes a calm, zen #boardgame is needed. Fish, Farewell, Forever is a quirky Japanese solo card game that fills just such a role perfectly. I love it.

The latest #boardgame delivery from @buttonshy.bsky.social has arrived. Embers condenses tower defence gameplay into just 18 cards. Its made a good, and suitably atmospheric, first impression.

Being back at work after the holiday season sucks. Fortunately, #boardgames do help take the edge of the January gloom with their own sparkle. Here’s what’s brightening my days currently.

Who enjoys setting up #boardgames? Nope. Me neither. Some aspects I find particularly egregious. I take a look at a few of them and suggest how to save a few moments of setup time.

I managed a couple of games of #Ironwood on Saturday, a 1-2 player skirmish #boardgame. Gorgeous art, lovely thematic production and worked well solo, albeit with a fairly complex bot. Great stuff. 😊

It’s been a while since I wrote a new #boardgame review. What better reason than to celebrate finally playing an older game? Viticulture from @stonemaiergames.com gets played solo. Let’s see if it has a snazzy bouquet…

Things took a very dramatic turn on the #boardgame blog today! It was a bit of a rollercoaster of emotion as I wrote about the wonderful Crystallo and the less-than-wonderful and much delayed Kickstarter. Check it out, including the timely twist in the tale!

New year, A new #boardgame resolution. I also listened to the latest from @boardgamehottakes.bsky.social. I totally agree with one of the points made - play what you have! Also, go give it a listen as it was a fascinating discussion. Anyway… blog time!

It’s been a busy festive season and the blog has taken a bit of a back seat. We did manage to see in new year with Carpe Diem #boardgame. Probably the best £7.50 I spent in 2025!

A spot of kanal construction is the #boardgame theme I never knew I wanted. Kanal is excellent and one of the best Rosenberg games for the solo player. 2 player will be great too I’m sure… when I get round to finding a suitably industrial minded opponent!

I’ve never worried about theme in my #boardgames. But a new arrival made me acutely aware of how I just didn’t get at sense of theme at all. For the first time, I’m not sure how that makes me feel. Disappointed? Maybe not. My expectations needed adjusting however.
