Gonna go out on a limb here and say you should watch Heather Cox Richardson talk about this. She raises some interesting points about Schumer—one of which is that whether he goes or not is of little consequence right now. He’s a lousy communicator, but this deal forced the House back to DC 1/

my takeaway from this whole episode is that we're still too scared to actually take a fight straight to the GOP. I'd love to see even a TINY fraction of this energy spent attacking Schumer & Senate Democrats go towards Thune, Johnson, & Trump, who carry like 90% of the blame for what just went down.

I'm not quite so positive on Jeffries but something that meaningfully differentiates him from Schumer is actually hating Republicans quite a lot for at least directionally correct reasons
Jeffries may be able to elevate his game enough to survive a primary and leadership challenge, and if he does, he might be worthy of those victories
