I fear the Europeans will validate Trump’s complete lack of respect and his view that they are weak and not relevant when it comes to global security. It’s critical that this not happen.

France is asking the EU to stop taking a lead from the USA after 80 years of Europe taking the lead from the USA.

Don't expect the change to happen overnight - if in the USA I would be thinking how much does this erode our soft power - and our status as reserve currency. The Euro is a safer bet.

Europe will regret not standing up to Putin.
How many times does Europe get taken in by the promises of a mad dog dictator intent on global domination?

Far right Republicans like Limbaugh and Co have been screaming the US should leave NATO for decades.
That asshole caused the Oklahoma City bombing by claiming the FBI and ATF were going to help NATO invade the US and "black helicopters" were circling in Florida.
I heard that fat piece of sh** say it

#Trump is absolutely killing the #UnitedStates! Our allies have now rightly decided that they cannot trust us & will not buy things like the #F35 from us because #Trump or whoever could decide to cut the #intelligence which makes them, basically, an ordinary plane!

France is right and most European countries are still buying US protection wasting money in American weaponry even though Trump despises them.

Germany, Denmark, Portugal , Italy, Poland should be the ones to blame .

I don't think Europe ought to depend on the US, nor trust us with its intell as long as putin's puppet rules from his gold toilet throne, in what's left of the White House he destroyed.

Save yourselves.

We owe our nation to the French. “Supported by the French army and navy, Washington's forces defeated Lord Charles Cornwallis' veteran army dug in at Yorktown, Virginia. Victory at Yorktown led directly to the peace negotiations that ended the war in 1783 and gave America its independence.”

That gives a bit of "Even when the French are right, they are wrong" vibe. To be fair, France is a big within Europe, but rather small on the world stage. The amont of money needed to rearm must come from the EC, she's here for that purpose ! But it's Germany (and others) who oppose shared debt ...

I agree the French were and are right, but not your conclusion. Europe is extremely active and advanced in its plans to defeat Russia despite the continued support the USA gives to Russia. We tend to talk quietly and wield a huge stick.

We are close to being ready, just change a few politicians!!

Some of them might be, yes. But the underlying issue is that a lot of voters really believe these lies and truly don't understand what Russia really wants (mostly on the left, the far right just agree with Putin the same way they agreed with the nazis in 1939).

I hope France will not reproduce what happened in WWII and will stand ready.

Moreover, French public opinion isn't really fully aware of the Russian threat right now. Even some major politicians are convinced that the War in Ukraine and the threat against the baltic countries is because of NATO enlargement to the East. Russian propaganda has been at play for a while...

French leaders have been obsessed with reducing public spending. They passed VERY unpopular reforms to do so despite an ageing population that increases public spending. Now they're stuck with very little room to manoeuvre, especially with Macron's lack of majority in the National assembly.
