This is Poppy, and yes—she chose this position. I tend to exaggerate my dachshunds’ proportions when I draw them, but apparently I’ve been drawing them accurately this whole time.

If you think using AI makes the work meaningless, I’d argue you’re not looking at the work. You’re looking at the tool.

We talk about ‘originality’ like we invented it. But creativity has always been about reworking what came before. The difference now? More people have access.

I wrote about how I helped a startup build a flexible illustration system that keeps their brand consistent as they grow—using AI tools like Midjourney in a thoughtful, intentional way. It’s part personal story, part creative process, and part case study.

The age-old dog pants debate came back up last night after Jenny went fly fishing.
We were talking about her waders… so I tested the theory in cartoon form.
Which one would you pick?

Made in Sora using a golden age-style preset I built.
Prompt’s in the alt text.

Drawing my dogs brought me back to art.

That turned into RUFF — my dog-inspired brand. I wanted to offer custom, personal work at scale, so I built a process using new tools that made it possible without losing the feel.

Just got this ChatGPT alert:
“Saved memory is full. New memories won’t be added until you make space.”

I’ve been using it to track tasks and dates—it’s been great.
But now I have to manually delete memories?

Kinda breaks the magic when the thing that remembers everything asks me to remember that.

Some ideas just stick with you—and for me, the yin yang keeps showing up. The concept of balance, opposites coexisting, and the harmony between dark and light feels especially meaningful in the chaos of life. Also… gluten-free Oreos are my kryptonite. So I couldn’t resist merging the two.

Creature Comforts.
Experimenting with a consistent visual style using the latest ChatGPT image generator (plus a little Photoshop), I created this series highlighting a few personal essentials—items that keep me comfortable, grounded, and inspired.

Midjourney (image) + Kling (animation) things are getting wild, what are the tools going to look like it the next 5 years?!

America is built on black-and-white thinking—good or bad, right or wrong, success or failure. It wasn’t until therapy that I learned how limiting that mindset is. In CBT, it’s actually called a cognitive distortion. Most things live in the grey—good and bad at the same time. And that’s okay.

I get that there’s still some stigma, but ChatGPT has seriously helped my creative work. I’m more inspired than ever.

Why can’t AI be a tool for artists if it’s still shaped by human intention? People got riled up when iPads entered the mix—now artists love what they’ve unlocked. If art makes you feel or think, isn’t that what matters? A different process doesn’t mean it’s not art.

Finally watching Babylon 5, and it’s striking how much it resonates with what’s happening in the world right now. Any fans out there? I’m really enjoying it so far.

Anyone else feel like ever since the pandemic, with the world being a bummer, your wardrobe lost its excitement? I went from bright, fun patterns to… gray.

AI self portraits courtesy of krea.ai. It gives some incredible results, but I'm having a hard time making portraits that look less photographic.

Ever taken in the view of Portland from Counsel Crest Park? It’s pretty amazing. Here’s how Midjourney interpreted it.
