Perhaps the devil is in the details, but it's disappointing to know that
@mark-carney.bsky.social would rather budget up to $1B to support and recruit international researchers than to support to talent already in Canada.

The Canadian government has seemingly never read a single one of its own commissioned reports on what Canadian science needs. (It's not more people.)
Globe & Mail reports “the budget is expected to include up to $1-billion to attract high-quality talent and researchers from the United States and elsewhere”
So far hospitals and universities have been going it alone….

In Canada, proposed cuts of 15% across the federal government would have a dramatic effect on already globally decimated research & science.

Join Canada's research & science community and tell PM Mark Carney to preserve the funding promised in 2024.

Dear colleagues:

Just because there is an “average” salary range for a postdoc in a given city, this should not be a reason to NOT PAY THEM a living wage.

It is unthinkable to justify paying PDFs less money because of the city they live in.

Do better please.

One third of the time I have an imposter syndrome, another third of the time I don't have the energy to keep up with the pace of things, a quarter of the time I feel like I am managing OK, and the remaining <9% of the time I feel like I can kick ass all the way to the moon (this is when I write).

Congrats to Dr. Sabri Rial !

He investigated the mechanisms of how 14-3-3zeta influences adipogenesis.

FYI, he's on the PI job market and would make a fantastic colleague ;)
