We are releasing seven new science publications today, based on our Q1 data release earlier this year. All revolve around galaxies, from dust to interactions to active centers.These are accompanied by two new image collages drawn from the same release.

The Rubin Observatory is set in the Atacama Desert, Chile, high atop the mountain Cerro Pachón and far away from the lights of the closest towns. This gives it the perfect vantage point for its mission to rapidly survey the sky and discover new asteroids, supernovae and more!

Don't think we'll ever get bored of looking at images from the Rubin Observatory. This portion of the Virgo Cluster (one of the closest large galaxy clusters to us) really showcases the complexity of galaxy interactions.
Two bright blue stars stand out against a dense background of fainter stars. Spread across the field are the large, diffuse smudges of background galaxies. The galaxies are predominantly yellow, elliptical ones lacking defined spiral arms and have faint trails of light between them from stars being flung into intergalactic space as the galaxies merge.
