Ok so most people will say 'I never know what to say' here and it's true it can be hard to raise the subject but there's no cheat codes or shibboleths, just....contact your friends XD Spend time with them and if they seem down, maybe ask them if everything is ok? And go from there with kindness.
It's a bit of a cliche but: remember to be proactive about checking in on your friends. Actually take the effort to contact them and don't expect depression to appear as an obvious scary ghoul shouting 'wooo i am very sad'. Tends to be a bit more complex than that.
