Thank you everyone who has followed me over here on @bsky.app 😀. See new accounts: @bartongrp.bsky.social for updates about my group, @jalview.bsky.social Jalview and @dundeeweather.bsky.social for my weatherstation info.
Forecast suggests it will be windy through the night. Much worse over on the West Coast of course! Stay safe!

So much for the theory that I’d miss the storm if I left for home…

My office is really hot so I might just go home and lounge by the pool... Oh, I don't have a pool! Drat!
Nice and toasty today (29C) but thunderstorms on the way apparently. They usually miss Dundee but we will see!

Some of the best features introduced to Jalview over the last few years! 😀
✅ Import genomics VCF files and analyse data like a pro!
Watch Mungo as he outlines how genetic variant data can be imported into and visualised in Jalview using our signature CDS-protein split-screen feature.

Very quiet at work today - many people staying home to avoid the forecast winds later today. Just beginning to pick up now but the peak is forecast for 16:00 today... Take care if you are out and about!
Been a while since I have updated here. Enjoying the lovely weather in #sunnydundee #scotland over the last few weeks. Today though the new storm #Floris is just hitting. Some decent gusts of 20 mph, probably double that at the airport #EGPN on the river.

Great new features in Jalview that allow you to explore protein structures predicted by AlphaFold
🚀 Our latest AlphaFold video is out! Find out how you can discover hidden domains in your AlphaFold models using Jalview's PAE-focused cluster analysis.

Oh, an origin story from your perspective would be cool. We could compare notes!
Sustaining scientific software long-term is very hard...
35 postdocs/staff (3-20 yrs!) and 16 Ph.D. students all funded on external grants since 2001. I guess they buy stuff locally so help the economy! 😜

Wow. I was thinking of writing a Jalview / JPred origin story. What an amazing tale of over a quarter century of hard effort you and your team have put in.
Sustainable scientific software? ✅ ✅ ✅
I wonder how much direct economic development Dundee has seen through all of your grants?

A great way for Javier to finish his time in @bartongrp.bsky.social with our first journal cover! Shame they don’t print them any more! 🤣🤣
The @narjournal.bsky.social Annual Web Server Issue is now finalised. Congratulations to all other authors for their excellent resources.
I am thrilled to share that one of our #LIGYSIS-web paper figures was selected as the cover image for this issue. Check it out here: lnkd.in/dXAb6jwv!

musée d’Orsay also has an amazing collection of impressionist art. Including Suerat, Monet, Manet, etc and of course, van Gough. A shame so much of this work is now behind glass so hiding the vibrancy of the brushwork.
The museum is in an incredible former railway station and well worth a visit!
