Information Integrity and Digital Protection. I work for the UN Refugee Agency - UNHCR - leading our response to misinformation, disinformation, online hate speech. Currently based in London
I’ll be at the Trust & Safety Summit in London this week. Looking forward to hearing from some of the digital platforms that many of the world's 120m refugees rely on to access safe + trusted information.
Let me know if you’ll be there and would like to meet. #TSSummit

Great to have Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, on Bluesky.

It’s a vibrant community, and a promising model for decentralized social media policies that transparently address toxicity and strengthen information integrity.

This is my first Bluesky post.

But I am happy to be here to talk about the cause of a lifetime.

To shine a light on the experiences of those forced to flee, and of those whose exile ends.

To tell you about the work of courageous colleagues, at UNHCR and beyond.

I joined Bluesky back in 2023 but didn’t find much to keep me here, so it’s cool to see it finally taking off. Expectations are sky high, but this platform has a vitality that makes me remember what I loved about text-based social media in the first place. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/22/t...

Bluesky has a hint of the old Twitter magic, but the feeling of freedom it offers might be even better.

"Built by the people, for the people" - it's a lofty tagline, but I'm glad to see Bluesky appears to be prioritising trust, safety, and interoperability, towards enabling healthy public conversations in the digital space.

Content moderation policies vary widely from one social network to the next, and they all have significant influence on perceptions and narratives around the conflict.
