This year I’ve spotted a record number of tussock caterpillars on milkweed along the North Shore. They share the monarchs’ coloration but are much hairier. The bristles can trigger blisters on contact. So look, don’t touch. Still, they’re very cute and, for some reason, usually hang around in pairs.
