I teach editing, writing and information management at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at KU. I'm a fan of words, baseball, college basketball, St. Louis and Futurama. Remember: Everyone needs an editor.
I feel like I have your level of interests and things going on, @katiebeaconpoint.bsky.social, but not your level of organization. #ACESchat!

Hi! @gerrrib.bsky.social here getting ready for #ACESchat today!

I’m interested in this topic because I’ve never had to market myself, but as I take on freelance projects, I can see that marketing is important. #ACESchat

Lisa McLendon gave this as an example when talking about fused particles. I’d look at that sentence and say to myself “I’m not sure if it’s wrong or not. So why not rewrite it” to: “The meeting attendees were distracted when the kittens meowed.” When in doubt , punt. #ACES2025 Sweat This, Not That

You’re working with grammar. You wonder what you should sweat. Or what you shouldn’t sweat. Lisa Mckendon has the answer for you at the #ACES2025 conference.

The very first speller goes out on the first word “croquembouche.” Any fan of the Great British Baking Show knows what it is. Doesn’t mean they know how to spell it. #ACES2025

As expected,
Peter Sokolowski if Merriam-Webster is being serious about this fund raising spelling bee. This raises money for ACES Education Fund scholarships. #ACES2025.

Kristen Clark is talking about government writing but this advice about noun clusters is good advice for everyone. (For my students, I might also call theses adjective stacks.) #ACES2025

Like fantasy? Consider reading my nephew’s first novel, “The Witches of Galdanon.” Also my first fiction edit (I was a 2nd editor.) It’s a medieval-style fantasy of adventure, personal growth & magic. Great summer read.

I read that Campbell's is buying Rao's. I usually buy a can of San Marzano tomatoes and make my own sauce, but I suspect that for some people, this may seem like bad news.
Campbell Soup buys Rao’s, the beloved pasta sauce brand
The soup company paid $2.7 billion for Sovos Brands, which makes Rao's sauces as well as pastas, frozen entrees and Noosa yogurt.
