Hooray! The first paper of our FACE-UP project has finally been published! And this is actually the last week of funding! Literally too busy to write more now… so more later!

Good to see solar panels over part of one of the car parks at the Metrocentre in Newcastle!

As eldest’s #photography deadline is now looming, this month’s trip to #Durham is an extra long one to hopefully enable him to get the majority of his final photoshoots completed. This was not the weather we ordered! 😅

Decided to get some rosettes back out & mice have eaten a box in an outbuilding, destroyed a lot of them & those remaining are crumpled to varying degrees 😭

Is there a way to flatten the ribbons without damage? Tried heavy books but it hasn’t worked on most & I’m nervous about ironing them! Help!

After deciding in June 2023 that I was going to join the gym … I have finally joined the gym!! 💪🏽
I have a fitness planner to log my exercise and food, and I’m feeling very hopeful that 2025 will be the year I manage to stick to it and find a healthier and happier me!

Tonight we lit the final candle for the last night of Chanukkah.

This time last year I wasn’t in a great place. I spent 2024 working hard on myself, being brave, & pushing myself out of my comfort zones. I learnt a lot about myself along the way.
A recent pivotal moment means I’m starting 2025 happy, & with hope that continuing the work will be easier this year.

It’s very rare we properly see our feral farm cat Ginge to get a photo of him. Look at his adorable grumpy little face! 😻

It’s #Christmas today, #Chanukkah starts tonight and, if you’re in the UK, it’s also Gavin and Stacey day!!

I hope everyone has a lovely time whatever you do or don’t celebrate, and that it is as gentle on you as possible if it’s the first holiday without a loved one.

#DuvetKnowItsChristmas is brilliant. Watching people post that they’ve arrived at their parents and found that this year they’ll be sleeping between a printer and an exercise bike, with a Care Bears duvet cover they had when they were 7 🤣🤣
So, let's try doing #duvetknowitschristmas here this evening? People are literally Driving Home For Christmas right now, which MIGHT JUST mean that they'll be sleeping somewhere unusual. 1/

This morning I was searching online for other flavours of drinks now I can no longer have caffeine. Having been up since 5.30am I was very tired and misread the name of this tea as a minty public health nightmare! 🤣

Today was spent driving around County #Durham so my eldest could take some photos for his #photography project about the #mining industry in NE England. I can’t upload any of his images but my snap below is the lift cage from the mine at #Easington Colliery which shut in 1993.

If the north of Scotland was warm I could grow rice! #SmallFarmLife

The rain hasn’t stopped so checking the cows this morning was a bit soggy due to the gley soils in our bottom fields! Thankfully the field they are in is on a slope so they’re sensibly staying out of the water.

Day 1 of the medical geology and environmental health conference was great today! Brilliant presentations from everyone! I really enjoyed sharing my #Sinabung ash work 😃

After a wonderful weekend catching up with old uni friends in Leicester it’s time to unwind in Durham ready for a medical geology and environmental health virtual conference starting on Tuesday!
November 24, 2024 at 3:34 PM
I’m back in Leicester again! This time for a reunion with some of my Geology undergrad cohort.
I found out on Wednesday that I am presenting at a conference next week so this evening will be spent writing a presentation uncomfortably close to a deadline. Really adds to the reminiscing 🤣🤣

Between the #snow in the north of #Scotland, traffic in Edinburgh and the sat nav going bananas and sending me through Newcastle city centre (🤯) it has been a very very long and tiring drive down to #Durham!! Now fed and ready for bed! 😴

This hasn’t stopped all day and we’re now snowed in! I used to get extremely excited about snow when I first moved up here but the novelty wore off very quickly!

It was a cold, wet and very windy day in north Aberdeenshire today 🥶
We found a fishing memorial sculpture which depicts a woman and her daughter looking out across the North Sea for a family member who will never return.

Whilst mucking out the horses tonight the Arab dribbled freezing cold water down the back of my neck and the Fell dribbled her chaff soup over me and then kept emptying the scoop! I’ll be glad to chuck them back out into the field tomorrow! 😂 My son’s little Welshie was a good boy as always!
