You can start by drawing over photos to get shapes and muscles in your head (See the legs in the corner are traced to try and identify the muscles).
Then you can try applying that knowledge to a reference without tracing.

"When will you do more Gender Bent Fighters?" ->
I think I just put it on a hold cause I want the mixes to either make sense (the characters are similar) or be interesting in concept.
The only defined one right now is cyborg as Kaihibit from Darkstalkers.
Right now I can't imagine anything else.

Try re-doing old stuff to notice the upgrades and how quickly you do it, example:

My idea here was having Dipper trying to scape from whoever dressed him up like that, but I never decided who that person would be. Maybe it was at one of Mabel's sleepovers.
