I feel obliged to counter this Europe ‘outsourcing of defence’ statement with a question of whether it suited the American government and military very nicely at the time to have bases in Europe.

With AI and technology in general anything is possible. So funding depends on belief. Claims are made and we only find out way down the road whether they can be achieved and if anyone finds them valuable. Most VC / PE people are financial architects. The understanding of tech and people is limited.

It was a battle between power retention by traditional holders and people power via democratic structures policed by free press. Now billionaires and bad actors are trying to usurp both of these via supranational networks. Look behind Trump. This is what I see.
