Birder since 1983, have done a fair bit of Twitching, but more local patch birding now although still keeping tabs on the sightings around the UK. Patch birding Bickershaw Rucks since 2011 long before Country Park status!

Y'day @ Pennington Flash I had the company of this Robin #Birdoftheday for an hour singing within touching distance. Had I brought seed I'm sure it would have fed from my hand! 1 GWE, 2 L.Egret, 12 Goosander + all other expected birds. Missed the reported Casp Gull & left B4 Gull roost. #PFBirding

Thursday afternoon was grey & dismal light conditions @ Pennington Flash so I was happy to get a photo of G.Tit then 4 5minsl{ B4 dusk the sun put his hat on, hip hip hip hooray! B4 anyone implies A1 the photo is not edited! 😊 Shots looking out over Ramsdales! #PFBirding

Wednesday @ #BCPBirding Mr Sparrowhawk was waiting for the Starlings to arrive pre roost & was very attentive to the sounds of birds nearby. Will post video in another post as it's not possible to post video & photos together. #UKBirding #Patchbirding

1st W Male Greater Scaup still present this afternoon asleep but in Ramsdales bay along with 50+Pochard, 10 Goosander, 70+ Tufted Duck, 8 Goldeneye due to the boats on flash,2 GWE 1 in Ramsdales reedbed & 1 by East bay. Miserable light but at least it stopped raining. #PFBirding

Very quiet this early pm @ #BCPBirding of interest details as follows of Mute Swan
2 ringed birds 4FZL & 4FZN present on Nevison's Flash BCP South were ringed as cygnets on Diggle Flash BCP North on 25/09/1924 as part of a brood of 7!! Info thanks to Steve Christmas. The 3rd unringed #UKBirding

2hrs b4 dark NYD @ S'port Marine Lake, Smew eluded me but, Peregrine, Ad Med Gull @ 14.40,(see additional post for video)
Ad Little Gull @ 16.00 flew East between Dunelm store & first island North of the Pier. A rainbow added colour to the old Promenade Hospital Building.

This Treecreeper @ #BCPBirding caught my attention 4 a while y'day watching it's agility moving around the tree trunk picking insects etc out of the Moss. Wish I was as agile 🤣

Traveling down Long Lane, Aughton, Lancs, rather quickly on the way to meet family in Southport., @ 13.53 when I noticed a single CATTLE EGRET standing alone in the middle of a field looking a bit lonely was a bit of a surprise! No time to stop unfortunately!

Over half of December been & gone @ #BCPBirding & a lot quieter! Good numbers of Redwing remain with plenty berries still on offer. Starling roost attracted a Sparrowhawk this week. The 8th Dec 1 G Partridge once a daily sight was only my second record this year!! #UKBirding #Patchbirding

Sat pm 1¾hr @ Sandplant Marshside raptor watchpoint till dusk 3 Marsh Harriers, 1 Merlin,1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel were only raptors on show & distant. #UKBirding #RSPBMarshside #Lowcarbonbirding

Sat 13th pm walk along Marine Drive from M.Lake to Sandplant NCN62 looking seaward lots of Pinkies 1-2000 scattered along route & numerous Skylark occasional glance across road @ inland marsh where large numbers of wildfowl were present as well as Gulls & waders #UKBirding #RSPB #Lowcarbonbirding

Paid a visit to relatives in Southport y'day afternoon vià parbold &was fortunate to find 4 Cattle Egret in a field opposite Smithy Mushroom Farm in Scarisbrick on route, then a quick visit to Marine Lake, Southport & caught up with the 1st W Male Smew just before dusk #UKBirding

half day birding away from home y'day p.m @ Lytham/Fairhaven @ low tide was hoping to find Snow Bunting but no luck, a Spotted Redshank calling drew my attention as it flew past was unexpected! A quick stop on the way home @ Warton Bank just before dusk saw SEO fly over towards L. Quays. #UKBirding

This week @ #BCPBirding a Woodcock was my first of this winter a day after the J.Snipe. Redwing continue to be prominent especially @ roost. Starling Murmurations continue attracting a Peregrine again today. Redpoll & Siskin numbers have now dropped. 1 Ad Com Gull (wrongly named!) today #UKBirding

Tuesday evening there were 2 Murmurations @ #BCPBirding, first up the usual Starlings B4 roosting in reedbed @16.10 then it was the Jackdaws turn which I have not witnessed @BCP B4 roosting as they usually roost @ Pennington Flash! Redwing heard going to roost in vid! #UkBirding #Patchbirding

It's been a good Autumn for Redwing & Fieldfare passage & with a very good crop of berries & apples on offer a lot will stay on site hopefully joined soon by some Waxwing 🤞On other taxon this Doe Roe Deer spotted me long before I saw her by a favourite apple tree #BCPBirding #UKBirding #Patchbirding

Part of Y'day evenings Starling pre roost murmuration was attended by 2 Peregrine, also numerous Redwing also dropping in to roost. Informed by a local fisherman that on Wednesday morning a Bittern flew across the Flash!! @ #BCPBirding #Patchbirding #UKBirding
