We know that some days can be harder than others and that processing trauma isn't always linear. It's okay to take things one day at a time.

Remember to listen to yourself and your body and acknowledge how you're feeling. Try to work with how you are, rather than how you feel you're supposed to be.

Galop's helpline is here for LGBT+ people in the UK who have experienced abuse or violence, such as hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, conversion practices or any other kind of abuse.

Domestic abuse can take many forms, and it can be difficult to recognise when someone close to you is being abusive.

55% of LGBT+ people in the UK have been subjected to domestic abuse by a family member, partner, or ex-partner, according to Galop's research with YouGov.
January 14, 2026 at 2:21 PM
Conversion practices involve an ongoing pattern of multiple abusive behaviours, including physical violence, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse and forms of coercive control.

It can be hard for people who've experienced abuse and violence to feel safe coming forward for help. When you're LGBT+, there's often an added worry that services won't understand your LGBT+ identity or that you'll experience anti-LGBT+ prejudice.

We want you to know that you're not alone 🌈 🏳️‍⚧️
