So many problems are caused by people going too fast. What’s the rush? Take it easy

Saw a car transporter loaded up today, in the rain. Super low tolerance for error. Right next to a power line at that!

2025 is weird, i can more reliably print a whole physical thing with a 3d printer than a page of ink with a 2d printer

Wow, gpt5 really is pretty rough. I have it parsing uk addresses out of a highly structured csv, and if it runs into a malformed post code it descends into this recursive stop madness until infinity.

Feels like we are pretty damn far from AGI. This is basically just matching a regex

My (perhaps unorthodox) parenting tip for toddlers: you want to keep you kitchen knives incredibly sharp so that you can chop fruits and vegetables one handed while holding them in the other hand.

Absurd thing happening just now in modernity: my asthmatic cat has a nasal infection and in addition to antibiotic the vet has recommended a humidifier or steam so we are in the steam shower together. She is loving the ability to lick water directly off of the wall

Huge upgrade in the shop- made a proper workbench for the first time ever. Amazing how much fits inside and it’s great to have a laminate top. Working on drawers now. The whole thing had removable casters on it so that it’s movable.

AI tools are really disappointing. I’m tired of the “you’re holding it wrong” excuse. This shit is at best spicy autocomplete, my toddler had better general intelligence

I wish more frameworks and tools provided clearer manual setup instructions.

The “just run create-thing” to scaffold a new project is handy for kicking the tires, but adoption into an existing project is often a tedious reverse engineering of the starter boilerplate.

most large software projects should be spiky in terms of complexity distribution: some core complex parts and the rest simple dumb stuff. If complexity is everywhere that’s just toast

Really loving how the database design theory academics couldn’t even normalize their own damn normal form naming

@wesbos.com just listened to the drizzle syntax episode. Glad you guys actually asked the hard questions about daily life being in Ukraine. As a tech industry we can’t just pretend things are okay when they aren’t.

Sometimes when you’re doing a really big project it’s a bad idea to check overall status or progress. It’s demoralizing to see how little you’ve done, just keep doing what you have in front of you.

Love this solution to closet lighting. The switch is in the door, light is on when the door is open. No finicky motion sensor stuff

A lot of my woodworking recently had been very practical. Very happy with these new basement shelves I made. Three floors of 4x8 plywood gives quite a bit of storage space
