Sunny Southern California wasn’t quite the escape from winter rains it usually is at the New Year. Even in the desert. There’ll certainly be a spectacular super superbloom this year. There were some bold sunsets on the coast to bid farewell at the end of the trip, though.

What’s in flower in the Fuchsiarium? Fuchsia paniculata is a large shrub to small tree native from Mexico into central Panama. Interestingly, it has a subspecies , F. paniculata subsp. mixensis, found only in some higher elevations in the Mixe and Ixtlan Districts of central Oaxaca. 1/2
